An Overview
Welcome to Thursday’s Journal, an online destination centering the worlds of literature and culture. We’ll include original fiction, curated reading lists, and writer’s resources. We’ll also dish up music reviews, playlists, and other ‘hot takes’ we spot in the world of entertainment.
History and Journey
Thursday’s Journal was officially launched in 2015 with the mission to provide commentary on the world around us through writing voices belonging to Black and brown folks as well as those within the LGBTQ+ communities. While the publishing and media landscape can be quite brutal, Thursday’s Journal is a platform of opportunity to get your voice heard.
“You have to have something to put your work in. Otherwise, it’s not valid.”
Grace Coddington
This quote was one of the reasons why Thursday’s Journal was created, to ensure there was always a destination for voices otherwise minimized for one reason or another. From the beginning, we have secured exclusive interviews with rising musicians, established fashion industry personalities, and actors gracing both the big-and-small screens. Some highlights include actor Marque Richardson, singer BETSY, and designer Patrick Robinson.
We briefly expanded the Thursday’s Journal portfolio when we launched a podcast, Into The Blue, in 2018. It has unfortunately disappeared from streaming services when Spotify acquired Anchor in 2023. Who knows, though! Maybe a new podcast is in the works as we speak.
The Team
Calvin Walker is the founder of Thursday’s Journal. Currently based in Brooklyn, NY, he has worked throughout the fashion, entertainment, and CPG industries over the last 13+ years. He’s developed strategies and creative campaigns for brands including Lifetime Television, Calvin Klein, Google, Pier59 Studios, McDonald’s, Unilever, and more. As a freelance writer, he has contributed to the GRAMMYs, Food & Wine, and AdWeek.
Also, y’all, it’s just me right now. The dream would be building out a fairly compensated editorial and content team with enough funding to pay other freelance writers per accepted pitch. One day!
